Included Sample Work:
Unit Plan: Yoga & Meditation
Yoga & meditation has been included in a Personal Fitness & Wellness course, Individual & Lifetime Activities course, and virtual learning taught by Dr. Glencross. The unit leads students through various yoga poses, flows, and vinyasas and concludes with an authentic assessment requiring the students to apply knowledge of poses and breathing techniques to create an original yoga flow. The unit has been aligned with the Shape America National Standards.
Elementary Lesson Plan: Grade 5 Kicking Lesson
The lesson sample on kicking was designed for a 5th grade class. Students engaged in various kicking and passing drills in order to improve their skill and technique. During the lesson, students worked with partners, dribbled through cones, and passed at targets for kicking practice.
Secondary Lesson Plan: Stress & Working Out
The included lesson plan has been implemented in a variety of personal fitness courses. The lesson includes a discussion on a stress article that students have been expected to read for homework, prior to coming to class, as well as a full-body workout. This lesson is great to plan for when there is a stressful time planned within the fitness unit (i.e. MCAS, final exams, AP testing, etc.),
Remote Learning: Virtual Personal Fitness & Wellness
When schools turned to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Glencross designed a website to engage students in remote physical education. The site provided a range of physical activities, as well as wellness activities, that aligned with the in-person Personal Fitness & Wellness curriculum. Assignments and assessments were provided on the site, with supplemental readings to support learning. Posted activities also aligned with Zoom meeting lessons.
Supporting Colleagues Through a Pandemic
When schools turned to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Glencross had the opportunity to present to a group of Salem State University students, as well as other MAHPERD members on the use of Google Classroom to support learning during a pandemic, while also adapting assessments to meet the needs of remote learning.
