Teaching Philosophy
An asset-approach to teaching physical education -- it is important to unlock a student's potential by focusing on their talents.
Physical education plays a crucial role in today's society as COVID-19 has changed social interactions, physical activity levels, and led to more mental health concerns; all while obesity rates continue to rise. Through physical education, students can gain an appreciation in regard to their own personal health and wellness. In physical education, students are also given the skills needed to help achieve and maintain a lifelong, healthy lifestyle, while being given the opportunity to interact with their peers and find personal motivational factors from these interactions.
During physical education class, it is important that all students are involved, as everyone will benefit from learning skills and techniques to be physically and mentally healthy. Students do not have to be the most gifted athlete to participate in physical education; rather each student has the opportunity to become lifelong physically literate individuals, in their own way. Through an asset-approach to teaching physical education, all students are able to succeed based on their personal skill levels and wellness goals. As a physical educator, I strive to have my students take what is learned in physical education with them to maintain a physically active lifestyle, at any participation level through the involvement on more organized athletics, yoga, or even a long walk on the beach.
